Modern, electric blues
This electric blue kitchen was designed for a young family in Portishead near Bristol. The couple had three young children so we were briefed with an easy to maintain, family-centred kitchen that would be vibrant and fun!
This kitchen was designed as a functional offshoot of the open plan living room/diner. We wanted to bring a sense of unity and flow to the space whilst keeping some of the kitchen-based elements independent. As such, we housed a double tier cooker and two large larders towards the back of the kitchen along with the gas hob, and placed the large under-mounted double sink towards the entrance.
Opting for a modern utilitarian vibe but going bold and vibrant on the cabinets, we added an open bookshelf for the family’s cookery books to soften the entrance to the kitchen and blend the spaces together.
All of the cabinets were created from birch ply carcasses to ensure excellent strength and durability, with composite slab doors finished with a shadow groove inlay in European oak. The cabinets were painted in a custom mix electric blue and topped with a concrete effect Corian countertop (this highly durable and long-lasting material can easily be repaired and renewed, minimising landfill) which blended seamlessly with the Marmoleum Liquid Clay ‘concrete’ floor used throughout the space.
